Behind The Cover

By Patricia Ouska,

the artist behind the Vol. 2, Issue 1 cover

A dream catcher symbolizes love, faith, hope, fortune, and protection. It's hung close to a sleeping person. Bad dreams are caught in the web or pass through the center into the night sky. A dreamcatcher represents a small sample of my indigenous culture. I chose to paint one simply because they are beautiful, wonderful, and unique.

NPEP has allowed me to be seen, heard, and not othered.

If I were able to have one, l'd hang it close as I sleep. Right now, metaphorically speaking, I am caught in the web of the prison industrial complex. It is in my dreams where I am free of this bad dream of incarceration.
