‘Student at the Bus Stop’
By Miguelangel Garcia
I was born in Harvey, Illinois and raised by immigrant parents who came to the U.S. from Mexico chasing the dream. I am currently serving a 95-year sentence. I am also a Northwestern student majoring in social sciences. I like to draw and paint and am self taught. I prefer realism in pencil but have been learning all media.
The concept of my painting “Student at the Bus Stop” is how I see myself. I thought about being a student at Northwestern and how it felt on that first day of philosophy class with Professor Jennifer Lackey. I had that first day of school jitters, fearful and nervous but excited to learn. I tried to convey these feelings through my art.
