‘My Truth’

DeWayne is an outgoing, exuberant, loving, caring, generous, and grateful person. He believes in growth, education, community, and unity. He didn’t believe himself to be an artist; however, he knows he possesses power that makes him unique, and he believes that his power can and will spark positive change in this world.

This piece is about EVERYONE having a perspective and having a voice that we all are entitled to. We should never allow anyone or anything to take that away from us. Most importantly we should never allow someone else to tell our stories for us. Who knows you better than you?

I know my story; however, no one else wants to see what I see. No one else wants to hear what I have to say. No one wants me to speak my mind. Although my ears and mouth have been sewn shut, I will continue to see the truth and speak the truth so my truth can be seen and heard.
